MYST POST #2Q-2: TOMMY BOY

Tommy Boy is a fantastic comedy that I can watch over and over again. Peter Segal (director) chose Chris Farley and David Spade as the leading actors. These two men fit perfectly for the roles of their characters The camera shots and angles were magnificent. Each one was differently connected to other parts of the film. The camera followed the main characters in the scenes and did a great job. The scene where Tommy and Richard are singing and driving and the front hood flies up out of nowhere portrays the camera shots well. The camera showed the scene from Tommy and the roads point of view. Tommy Boy demonstrates good character and how giving up is not the answer. It starts off sad with big Tom dying but quickly turns and settles the mood. If you aren't very big on comedy you should still go out and watch this movie. Tommy Boy also shows a lot of relationships like friendship and romance. Richard and Tommy hate each other but throughout the movie they begin to appreciate each others company. Richard thinks Tommy is dim-witted and boorish. Richards relationship with Tommy grows as they become very good friends. I watch this movie up to this day because I always get a laugh out of it. Chris Farley did a fantastic job as the main character. I really enjoy the scene where the deer wakes up in the car. You never see it coming but then BOOM! it happens. I like the way that the director and actors portrayed that scene. This movie made $32,679,899 in the box office. It was a success. I give this movie 4.75 stars out of 5. Go out and watch this movie. It will give you a good laugh and you will want to see it again.

Film Studies Create a Story (1975)

In this movie we are focusing on how cities had a diversity that caused different ethnic groups to move in. The thing Chicago doesn’t know about is that its popularity is bringing in a mass of different ethnic oriented mobs. The mobs from China, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, and America are in a power struggle to see who will control the city and who will do anything to make sure their mob rises to the top. Our movie that we created is a very suspenseful thrilling movie. It will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire film. I can promise you that it will not get boring. In each scene there is always multiple things going on, so the viewer always has something to look at and get sucked into. The style that we are going for is kinda dark and violent. We want the viewer to be engaged throughout the entire film. We chose the Gangster/comedy genre. The reason why we did this is because we want it to be a violent film that will send a message. We had to put some comedy into this film, because we don't want the viewer to get too serious throughout the film. Jackie Chan is really good at cracking jokes and making the audience crack up. This genre fits with our actors perfectly because people like Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood have some experience with these films. We chose the Studio Warner Brothers because it is known for the productions of gangster movies, it worked on I am a fugitive from a chain gang. We chose Ralph Bakshi as our director because he worked on live-action type movies that were independent and adult-oriented and he also dealt with work that focused on different ethnic groups. He was a perfect fit for a movie. The lead actor will be Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood because both of their ethnic groups-Italian and Caucasian are the most powerful. The focus of our film is Cinematography because we chose Charles B. Lang Jr who aided in the innovations for outdoor action shots (good for gangster movie to provide create angles and shots for outdoor shoot outs. The cinematography in our film is the strongest part. We chose “R” for our rating due to the violence, but also the adult humor and jokes presented in the film. It will be a huge success and i am looking forward to seeing our movie progress and make money.

Formal Film Study #2: Tim Burton

Tim Burton was born on August 25, 1958. He is known for making dark, creepy, and quirky-themed movies. He was born in Burbank, California. As a young child Burton would make short films in his backyard with crude stop motion animation techniques. Burton loves to make very dark and creepy films because they stand out and that's what he represents. One of his idols was Edgar Allen Poe because Burton loved to paint dark things. Edgar Allen Poe was a famous poet and he was known for his dark words which inspired Burton to turn those words into drawings. Burton has chosen one specific actor that has been the leading role in most of his movies. That actor is Johnny Depp. Burton and Depp became close friends a while back when they made Edward scissorhands together. Johnny Depp played the leading role and it was a strong movie made back in the 90's. The three movies that I am going to talk about are Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride, and Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp has a leading role in each of these movies. I will start with Edward Scissorhands. Edward Scissorhands(1990) was the fifth movie that Burton had directed. Starring Johnny Depp this movie had a huge impact on viewers. Tampa Bay, Florida was where most of this movie was filmed. Many people say that this movie was an autobiography of Burton's childhood. It made a total of $6 million for the local economy. It was a financial success. The Corpse Bride(2005) was Burton's first full-length stop-motion film as a director. Burton was able again to use his familiar styles and trademarks, such as the complex interaction between light and darkness, and of being caught between two irreconcilable worlds. Johnny Depp led an all-star cast as the voice of Victor. The film was a financial success, making $53,359,111 domestically and $117,195,061 worldwide. The third movie that I will talk about is Sleep Hollow(1999) had a supernatural setting and made a huge impact on movie viewers. Johnny Depp was also the leading role in this movie and he did a fantastic job. It was loosely inspired by the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Burton chose to go with Paramount Pictures as his studio. Sleepy Hollow was released to generally favorable reviews from critics, and grossed approximately $207 million worldwide. It won the best art direction award. It was filmed in Tarry town, New York. The cinematography was fantastic. It helped the viewer realize how powerful the headless horseman was. All three of these movies were huge in the movie market place. I loved learning about Tim Burton throughout this entire project. He is into very dark, gloomy films because that's is how he wants audiences and viewers to describe and view him. Tim Burton has made many films and he will continue to do so. He is one of my favorite directors and I will continue to watch and love his films.

MYST POST #1Q-2: A BRONX TALE

A Bronx Tale is one of the greatest gangster films that I have seen. I love how the director chose actors like Robert De Niro to star in this film. Every actor shown in this movie really does a great job acting like a gangster. The camera shots and angles were magnificent. Each one was differently connected to other parts of the film. The camera followed the main characters in the scenes and did a great job establishing the mood of each scene. One scene that I thought the camera men did well in was the bar fight scene. Every angle and shot had to be set up and done perfectly in order to show exactly what was happening. The camera angles moved around to show what each character was doing in the scene. I liked how that scene sent a message. Even if you're someone who isn't really into the gangster genre or someone who doesn't like violence you would love this movie. A Bronx Tale really showed how life was in Bronx, New York back when the Mafia existed. This movie shows a lot of heart, courage, and choices made. I have always liked gangster films because they send a message. This movie really made an impact on me and not many movies do. I like to think about a movie non stop after I watch it and that's how it was when I saw A Bronx Tale for the first time. Anyone would like this movie because its not just abut the Mafia and how a boy gets involved with them. This movie shows how important family is. Robert De Niro did a great job being the good guy in this film. He stars in a lot of other gangster films and he usually stars as the bad guy. I give this movie 4.5 stars out of 5. Go out and watch this film. It will leave you speechless.

MYST POST#2:REMEMBER THE TITANS

Remember the Titans is one of the best movies that I have seen in a while. It is very heart warming and it sends a message. This movie is also like Facing the Giants. They are both about a football team and they show how racial and religious terms deal with each character. Remember the Titans is a movie that I will never forget throughout my life. It never gets boring. The style of this movie is very unique. Remember the Titans is a very modern movie but it also relates back to the 1960's when race was such a huge problem. The camerawork was awesome. I loved the way that the movie showed the lives of each character on and off of the field. Every scene was interesting. The camera shots and angles were awesome. I love the way that the camera followed all of the players when they were in a football game. It felt like you were right there with the linebacker or the quarterback. The look of this movie is interesting. No matter who you are or what you like if you saw the cover of this movie or you saw a scene/trailer you would be drawn in right away. It's truly fantastic.Denzel Washington was a perfect actor for the leading main character. He showed how great he can be on the big screen.
I thought this movie was fantastic. The actors did such a great job. They showed what a team and more importantly what a brotherhood is. I like how the movie got past the racial issues. The team came together as one and they didn't let other peoples opinions and thoughts affect their relationship. One thing that I loved about this movie and the message that it sent was that anyone could watch it. It doesn't matter if you're into sports or not. This is a movie anyone can watch either by themselves with a friend or with their entire family. Remember the Titans is a phenomenal film that I think everyone should see. I give this movie 4.5 stars out of 5. Go out and watch this film. It will leave you speechless. Remember the Titans was also based on a true story which makes it that much more impacting.

Film Studies Create a Story (1935)

The story that we created was something that everyone would talk about after they saw it. It would have such a huge impact on audiences that everyone would want to see a sequel. The genre that my group and i chose was horror. The reason why we chose this catchy suspenseful thriller was because a lot of audiences didn't have experience with these movies. We wanted to show audiences another part of movies. We showed part of the movie through the killers eyes and that was something that really caught peoples attention. The studio Universal really fit this movie because it was popular and it always had great movies. The whole cast had worked with this studio on their last movie and that showed that they had great chemistry. The director that we chose was Fritz Lang because he directed a movie called "M" and it was very similar to our movie. Fritz Lang got more and more popular with the movies that he made. The leading actor that we chose was Peter Lorre because he was also the main character in the movie "M" directed by Fritz Lang. Peter Lorre had a great scary slick look to him and he fit really well with  his characer "the strangler". The Detective will play a supporting character because Ernst Stalhkenbaur (detective) was part of the problem that the killer "Peter Loree" is trying to solve.  Every actor that we chose to be in our movie worked together on the movie "M" so there was already a lot of chemistry between them. The focus of our film is cinematography because it had to do with so many different things. Every scene needed cinematography and it impacted the way that the audience viewed the movie. The Hays Code affects our movie because we had to cut down on the violence a lot. Our movie is about a strangler and how he kills people to find out who killed his brother. The Hays Code states that there is to be no murder unless there is a point to that killing. It can't just be a random killing. We also had to make every actor/actress mature and grown up. Children weren't allowed to be in movies like this. We also had to show no signs of racism. I would definitely spend more time backing up the cinematography and storyline of our movie. If this was a solo project i would have backed up my facts more instead of just saying what was said. I would also said more about the Hays Code and how it iimpacted our movie. This movie is definitely going to be a great hit some day.

Formal Film Study:Act of Valor and Saving Private Ryan

I chose to write about the movie genre war. The movies Saving Private Ryan and Act of Valor are categorized in this genre. They both show real life activity in the war. They show the viewer what war is really like. The camera in Act of Valor follows the soldiers more. In Saving Private Ryan the camera is from a far distance pretty much the whole time. You can see the whole scene in Saving Private Ryan unlike Act of Valor. These films fit into Hollywood very well. The time eras are different but these two films were both great hits when they came out. The special effects in Act of Valor are a lot better than Saving Private Ryan because the technology was more modern. The directors had more to work with. These films show the culture aspects of the different countries we have fought in. Saving Private Ryan is shown during WWII and Act of Valor shows Afghanistan and other middle eastern countries. It shows very poor living conditions. The politics in these two movies show how the economy and government is running the army etc. They are very controlling and strong. The shots in Act of Valor were very quick and strong. They captured the main idea of the scenes and then moved on to another. Saving Private Ryan had long slower scenes. They moved at a slower pace to capture the moment. Both of these films were similar in most scenes. The war genre changed a lot because of new special effects. Both of these movies helped the war genre become more popular. These two films really made an impact on many people. They brought you into the war like you were there. The sound and special effects of both movies helped the viewer out by showing them what was really happening. The imagery in these two movies was magnificent. I can watch these movies all day because it never gets boring. Something is always happening and there are many things going on in one scene. Overall everyone needs to see these two films in order to know what war is all about on the front lines. Tom Hanks did an amazing job handling the lead role in Saving Private Ryan. The thing that made Act of Valor so entertaining was that the cast members were active duty navy seals. They do everything that is shown in the movie on a regular basis. Both of these movies have impacted me greatly.
